David Wampach
David is a French choreographer developing his artistic approach by borrowing from theatre and plastic art. Since 2003, he wrote more than 15 pieces in a radical and hypnotic way, sometimes with close collaboration with instrumental musicians and always opening new experimental spaces to contemporary dance. His creations explore trance and rituals. In 2011 he was the laureate of the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto. In 2014, he created the duet “VEINE” for the Cratère Surfaces festival in Alès, where he has been an Associated Artist from 2012 to 2016. In 2015, “URGE”, which premiered at the festival Montpellier Danse, was a piece for 6 dancers on desire and urges. In 2017, he created “ENDO”, a duo that takes inspiration from endotism and action art, then “BEREZINA” in 2019 and “CONCRERTO” in 2020. David Wampach is also regularly invited to teach in educational programs (ex.e.r.ce – CCN de Montpellier, EMFOCO and REVUELO – Concepción, in Chile, danceWEB, linked to the ImPulsTanz festival). Since 2018, thanks to the support of the Saison Foundation, he initiated a work about virus and virality collaborating with Japanese artists.
