Ikuyo KURODA
Ikuyo KURODA started classical ballet at the age of 6 and in 1997, she studied contemporary dance in UK. Then in 2002, she founded her dance company, BATIK.
With the foundation of classical ballet, her radical and dynamic choreography which pushes the dancers’ body to their limit, connects with primary impulse to dance and attracts audiences from across different genres. She was awarded “Next Generation Choreographer Award” and “Audience Award” in TOYOTA CHOREOGRAPHY AWARD in 2003, Asahi Performing Arts Award in 2004,
Dance Critics Society Award in 2006 and the 9th Japan Dance Forum Award in 2015. Alongside her works as BATIK, her various collaborations include Noism05 lead by Jo KANAMORI, Norimizu AMEYA, Hideo FURUKAWA, Akira KASAI, Hideki NODA and Kazuyoshi KUSHIDA.
