DANCE NEW AIR

There are three female dancers in whom I sensed distinctively unique talent when they were still young and unknown: Mikuni Yanaihara, Mariko Okamoto and Kaori Ito. Especially, Ito, who had not yet even entered college, already had this undefined yet firm conviction in herself. Her flexible but powerful physicality and unrefined but aggressive philosophy of dance was enough for me to sense in her a promising seed. She later blossomed into one of the most cutting-edge dancers I know. Brilliantly controlling her gift, she has grown as she drifted through dance circles around the globe with great success. The reason why some of the world’s leading choreographers hire her is perhaps because they sense this inborn seed of creation in her.
