Workshop sessions by the participating international artists, a customary event for Dance Triennale Tokyo.It will be an occasion to meet the artists working beyond national borders in person, and experience diverse possibilities of dance.(Target: those who have experience in dance. Translation will be provided.)

『BOX, L’HOMME AU CARTON』WORKSHOP & SHOWING

The piece will be taught in the workshop to the dancers who to be selected through auditions prior to the showing on Oct 5.

The origin of BOX, L’HOMME AU CARTON was Solo 1×60, created at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media in 2006 in which, in the hands of the dancer, a box is transformed into a poetic object and the solo becomes a duet. This time, the 25-minute choreography has been adapted by the choreographer himself into a 45-minute piece to be performed outdoors by fifteen Japanese dancers.

Workshop & Lecture by Claudia La Rocco

WORKSHOP
Dance critic for the New York Times and poet, Claudia La Rocco will give a workshop to explore the relationship between the act of writing and words and the body, and to question what is the essence of criticism. This workshop will offer a precious chance for aspiring journalists, dancers, choreographers and all those who are interested in the matter to think about words through the body, and to approach the body through words.

プロフィール

Claudia La Rocco

Poet, critic. One of the main dance critics for the New York Times and Artforum, La Rocco is a member of Off the Park poetry press and a board member of the Poetry Project. She founded PerformanceClub.org which focused on criticism as a literary art form, and won a 2011 Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant. While teaching at Princeton University, the School of Visual Arts, Impultanz and Movement Research, she actively collaborates with choreographers, performance companies, sound artists and composers. A book of her selected writings is scheduled to be published this fall.
